How bizarre.

Tonight's Hanukkah was set as "Kids give gifts to each other Night." They're getting older and we decided that now was the time that they give gifts to each other and the adults.

Celia asked that since there are so many of us could we split it between kid gifts and adult gifts between Christmas and Hanukkah.

The kids give gifts to each other happened tonight. Many little trinkets were passed around. Jack gave Charlie a wooden dinosaur, brontosarous shaped, pained green. Then he included poems!

His poem to Charlie is as follows:

I love you stronger than the strongest dinosaur.
I tell you of my love in a language older than any prehistoric beast.
My love will never be fossilised and always stay alive.

The poems for the girls are even sappier, but they've been put up on their walls and I haven't copied them down yet. Jack slays me. I love this kid to bits.

Roy Disney has passed away at age 79.

Walt was always someone who was dead to me. As important to my life as Marilyn Monroe or Picaso. An icon who created a juggernaut, that love it or hate it, has influenced generations.

But Roy? Roy was my face of Disney. He was the announcer, the plea for Disney to still be in our hearts and minds. He in his suit meant I was to be entertained, spoken to and delighted. He rescued the company from Walt's death and while he may not have taken it in the direction people wanted, it survived and thrived.

Rest in Peace, Roy. I hope you and Walt are catching up.

There is a "Novice Schola" the last weekend in February in Springfield, Mass. Generally geared toward teaching classes to those new to the Society. I imagine my "You're Chancellor of Minors, Now What?" class could be tailored to fit in with the theme very well.

Question is - Anyone going to it? It's a bit of a trip for me, I'd love to be able to split driving/gas/crash space and what not rather than just drive from here to there.

This past Saturday was the Coil Tuar Yule event. Since the Bester-kids can't go to Northern Region War Camp this year and they wanted to go to an event, we took them to this one. The event didn't even start until noon, so I was able to get up early and get everything done for the party we were going to on Sunday.

Through the course of the morning I had the kids get their garb and gathered, packed, preped and ironed everything I was wearing. You'll note what's missing in that statement in a moment. Husband Mine got everything into the car, and the kids and we were off. Just about when I wanted to be off.

We pulled into the parking lot of a Masonic Lodge ([info]collwen, the one you had your engagement party at!) got out of the car and I went "Jeff! Did you pack Charlie's garb???!!!!"

That's right, we had one of those comical moments of me saying "His garb is in the other room, could you get it while I go iron my dress?" And he heard "His garb is in the other room, I'll go get it before I iron my dress."

I was so very embarrassed. I have never had this happen to me, that I forgot Charlie's garb. And of course, the outfit he was wearing was a Halloween shirt with a mummy on it. He was also wearing devil horns. All day. They'd gotten stuffed int he garb bag and he found them and wouldn't take them off.

I put out one call to friends coming to the event that have a son the same age as Charlie, but they'd already left by the time I called. Embarrassment aside, everyone had a great time. The kids had a ton of stuff to do, gingerbread houses, painted figurines, cloved fruit/pomander balls, ribbon ornaments and games. Of course the most fun they had was chasing each other around and around the Mason's alter room.

I'm not actually sure what it's called, but it was a large room with little alters to strength, intelligence and wisdom. We kept looking for dexterity and charisma but couldn't find them.

Ivan and Natavia were there with their boys, but they had to leave early. As they were leaving Benjamin let Charlie wear his tunic. So Charlie was in garb for part of the day at least.

They ate nothing but candy and bread and noodles all day and generally had a fabulous time. I was very happy to report to their parents just how wonderful they'd been all day.

Sunday dawned with a bit of excitement. We had gotten home so late that they were sent to bed post haste. A few minutes before 7 (when they all had to get up) I hear a nock on our bedroom door. As I was getting up to get the door, Celia opened it and came in.

Red flags were immediately raised in my head. All the kids know to wait for us to either get the door or for us to say "Come in!" before opening it. Something was up.

There was Gwen with a face full of blood. Oof. Most of it was dried blood and a scrape just under her eyebrow bleeding sluggishly. I got Jeff and we cleaned her up. She was really good through all of it, but the poor thing was shaking like a leaf.

Best we can figure is that she had tripped the night before in the large room at the event. At the time there was not a mark on her. But through the course of the night and blood pressure changes and sleeping on her face, the blood capillaries swelled and something burst and bled all night. I think she'd futzed with her face in her sleep as her hand was covered in blood as well.

While a shocking way to wake up, I was really pleased with the kids. Jack noticed his little sister covered in blood and called for Celia. Celia at first brushed him off with a "Don't bother me!" but when Jack said "No, seriously, come here!!!" she heard his voice and came and saw what was happening and immediately came and got me.

They pick and poke and prod at each other until we all want to scream, but in an emergency they really came thru for each other. That rocks.

We got on the road to get them to religious school without further hitches. Celia was my morning sous chef and prepped the lunches for me and we got them donuts as a "this was a rough morning" treat.

We dropped the 2 older kids at school and brought Gwen over to [info]mi_mi_tor's place and I made off with some Hanukkah decorations. Then Husband, son and I headed up North for our annual Yule party in Albany. Charlie was very upset that Gwennie wasn't coming with us.

We got to the party early and then proceeded to have a great time with great company. Beverly and Charlie get together about as well as you could expect any pair of toddlers to. There was one moment when Charlie got annoyed and told Bev to "Go away!" and she just lost it. You can tell who has older siblings here and who doesn't. It was very sweet in an O-dear-lord-that-was-my-kid kind of way.

We stopped for dinner before going home. Not that there wasn't tons of food to eat, but Charlie hadn't touched anything and he really needed something to eat.

The drive home was slow, but not terribly bad and we got home safe and sound. It was an incredibly busy weekend, but the kids were all fantabulous. I'm tired, but happy.

Step One

Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it. Once a wish has been granted, it will be crossed off my list.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My 10 Wishitems
In no particular order!

If anyone wishes to get thru to me, purpura@livejournal.com works, unless you already have my contact info.

1. Some NC17 Willow/Spike Fanfiction. Availability of my favorite couple is drying up with the end of the show. Still, there are still authors out there and I support them every step they take!

2. In that same vein a Really good Willow and Spike icon for lj. I am not satisfied with the one I have.

3. I suppose I should say "Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men," But as they say "We are the United States Government, we don't DO that sort of thing." What I think I'd really like is everyone to look at what they have and have the ability to see the good thru whatever bad they have in their lives.

4. I have an amazon wish list and items off it would be swell.

5. Mixes of your favorite music! I love getting mixes. Mix cds with themes, or even a random dump of general music you like!

6. Pics of events and gathers that we went to together. We all bring our cameras and almost always say "Sure, I'll send you the pics!" Well, send them! It makes my day.

7. KEYS! I want old keys. Victorian keys, car keys, house keys, locker keys, anything. I have a Steampunk project I am working on and want to simply cover someting with keys. It's also based on an old Changeling Character I ran, that [info]uncacreamy stole from me. ;)

8. Mitts or fingerless gloves. I love them a lot. I like all sorts and styles and wear them with a lot of different things.

9. Teach me how to knit!!! I can't knit. I've been trying, but have yet to master it, I keep getting lost in the loops. I see all these gorgeous things that people are making and KNOW I could make them too. Once I master the silly stitches, and learn to read patterns.

10. At least a grand for a very personal issue. No I am not going into details, yes it will probably be dealt with, but some money from the supreme muffin/spaghetti monster would be really good right now.
